INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 17) — The Denison men's swimming and diving team faced a formidable challenge against the nation's top-ranked Division II University of Indianapolis, ultimately falling 174.50-123.50. The Big Red delivered strong individual performances and showcased their depth against the No. 1 team.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Denison's "A" team of Ben Bevill, Patrick Daly, Christian Narcelles, and Jack Hill secured second place with a time of 1:30.77.
George Goins led the way in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 9:20.34, while Lucas Conrads placed third in 9:30.00.
The 200-yard freestyle featured a dominant Denison sweep, with Jack Hill touching first in 1:40.53. Christian McIntire (1:41.71) and Christian Narcelles (1:41.90) rounded out the top three.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Ben Bevill claimed second place with a 50.18. He also performed well in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing third with a time of 1:51.71, while Luke Swiggett placed fourth in 1:52.03.
The 100-yard breaststroke saw Patrick Daly take third in 55.79. Daly returned to finish second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:02.20, while Liam Nelson placed fourth in 2:04.90.
Max Lough earned second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.80.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Nick Hensel touched third in 21.13, while Jack Hill claimed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.51. George Wang added a fourth-place finish in the event (46.94).
Lucas Conrads returned for a victory in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking 4:33.94, followed by George Goins, who took second in 4:35.84.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Patrick Daly claimed second with a time of 1:51.95, while Ben Bevill and Luke Swiggett took third (1:52.63) and fourth (1:52.75), respectively.
In diving, Nick Fogle delivered a standout performance on the 1-meter board, taking first place with a score of 501.90, followed by Brendan Stanley in second (499.45) and Brock Butchko in fourth (330.00). On the 3-meter board, Stanley claimed victory with another strong performance, scoring 316.15, while Fogle secured second place with 295.85 and Butchko placed fourth with 196.45.
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Denison's "A" team of Andre Beduschi, Jack Hill, Nick Hensel, and Gavin Jones finished third with a time of 3:03.39.
After a tough test against the top-ranked team, the Big Red will head home and prepare to compete again tomorrow as they host NCAA Division I Youngstown State University at noon in Granville.
