OBERLIN, Ohio (Jan. 15) — The Denison Big Red (9-6, 2-2 NCAC) came up short in a tightly contested conference matchup against the Oberlin Yeowomen (8-7, 2-2 NCAC), falling 77-70 at Philips Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Big Red surged in the third quarter, outscoring Oberlin 22-7 to erase an early deficit and enter the fourth with a slim lead. However, Oberlin responded with a decisive 29-point fourth quarter to reclaim control and secure the victory.
Adelyn Moore led Denison with a game-high 23 points, sinking six three-pointers and adding three rebounds and four steals. Abby Cooch also made a significant impact, recording 15 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Maddie Goodman and Abigail Westmeyer chipped in nine points each, with Goodman going a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
Denison shot 44.1% (15-34) from three-point range, but Oberlin capitalized on second-chance points (13) and converted 23 of 33 free-throw attempts.
Oberlin's Angela Kumler fueled the Yeowomen's offense, tallying 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting while hitting 6-of-7 free throws. Camille Zinaich dominated the glass with 17 rebounds and added 15 points.
The Big Red is now 9-6 overall and 2-2 in NCAC play. They will return to action on Saturday inside Livingston Gymnasium, hosting Hiram College in a game dedicated to Blood Cancer Awareness. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
