GRANVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 15) — The nationally-ranked No. 19 Denison Big Red (14-1, 6-0 NCAC) showcased their dominance in the second half, pulling away for a commanding 76-56 victory over the DePauw Tigers (8-8, 4-3 NCAC) Wednesday night inside Livingston Gymnasium.
The first half was a close battle, with DePauw staying within striking distance thanks to their trips to the free-throw line. Denison held a narrow 35-32 lead at halftime. However, the Big Red came out strong in the second half, outscoring DePauw 41-24 and solidifying their undefeated record in conference play.
Trevor Reed led the Big Red with 19 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line. Ricky Radtke followed with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kellon Smith added 10 points. Cameron Smith contributed nine points and three rebounds, and Jack Steinbach led the team with four assists.
Denison controlled the paint, scoring 40 points inside, and their bench added 19 points to the effort. The Big Red's defense also forced 10 turnovers, converting them into 16 points.
DePauw's Sam Jacobs paced the Tigers with 17 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Reph Stevenson added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Caleb Washington chipped in nine points.
The Big Red shot an efficient 50.9% (27-53) from the field and held DePauw to 41.3% (19-46). Denison also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Tigers 32-25, with seven offensive rebounds leading to 15 second-chance points.
With the win, Denison improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in NCAC play. They will return to action on Saturday, hosting Hiram College at 3:00 p.m. inside Livingston Gymnasium.
