GRANVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 11)— The second-ranked Denison men's swimming and diving team showcased their depth and dominance with decisive victories over No. 8 Carnegie Mellon (266-75) and No. 9 Calvin University (243-96) in a tri-meet inside the Trumbull Aquatic Center. The Big Red delivered exceptional performances across all events, highlighting their strength in the pool and on the diving boards.
The men's 200-yard medley relay set the tone for the meet, with Denison's "A" team of Ben Bevill, Patrick Daly, Christian Narcelles, and Nick Hensel clocking a 1:29.28 for first place. Denison's "B" team followed closely in second with a time of 1:30.98, featuring Jack Hill, Elijah Venos, Dylan Escano, and Harry Parsons.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Lucas Conrads claimed first place with a time of 9:26.87, followed by freshman George Goins, who placed second in 9:30.09.
Denison swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Jack Hill earned first place with a time of 1:39.21, with Christian McIntire and Gavin Jones securing second and third in 1:40.80 and 1:41.89, respectively.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Ben Bevill placed third with a time of 49.79. The 200-yard backstroke saw Denison take second and third, with Devin Testin finishing in 1:50.99 and Luke Swiggett in 1:52.10.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Patrick Daly finished second in 55.42, while Liam Nelson placed third in 55.90. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Elijah Venos captured first (2:01.53), followed by Daly in second (2:02.58) and Jones in third (2:02.90).
Denison also excelled in the butterfly events. Max Lough secured first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.71, while Max Soja followed in third at 1:51.71.
Nick Hensel took third in the 50-yard freestyle with a 20.79. In the 100-yard freestyle, Jack Hill finished first with a time of 45.42 with teammate Andre Beduschi right behind him with a second place time of 45.79,
The 500-yard freestyle saw Goins touch first in 4:36.56, with McIntire claiming second in 4:39.00.
The 400-yard individual medley was highlighted by a victory from Luke Swiggett, who finished first in 4:03.41. Lucas Conrads followed in second at 4:04.62. Senior Connor Brown nearly missed the third place finish with a time of 4:07.89
On the 3-meter diving board, Nick Fogle earned first place with 320.70 points, while Brendan Stanley finished second with 302.75 points. First year Brock Butchko finished with 247.55 points overall. On the 1-meter board, Stanley and Fogle switched places, with Stanley taking first (351.40 points) and Fogle finishing second (326.95 points). Butchko placed fourth with 276.55 points.
Denison will take their momentum into a challenging back-to-back meet weekend, traveling to Indianapolis to face the Greyhounds of UIndy on Friday before returning home to Granville to host Youngstown State University on Saturday.
