COLUMBUS, Ohio (Sept. 28) -- The Denison University women's fencing team opened the 2024-25 season Saturday by competing at the Ohio State University Open in Columbus, Ohio.
The Big Red put together a strong opening day performance with six medalists in the individual portion of the competition.
Highlighting the day was the performance of
Corvus Endo, who took the Silver Medal in the Women's Sabre. Corvus fell to Grace Fan of OSU by a score of 15-14 in the finals. Corvus' result is the best finish by any Denison fencer at the Ohio State open over the past six years.
Natalie Isberg took fifth place in the Sabre.
Denison put three in the top seven of the Women's Foil.
Lal Ertun led the way by taking Bronze.
Velma Hall finished fifth and
Bella Musto placed seventh.
Nicole Krumholz finished eighth in the Women's Epee. Krumholz lost to the eventual champion Gloria Klughardt from Ohio State. Krumholz recorded a comeback 15-13 win over Erika Gumagay of Ohio State in the quarterfinal round.
Chi Chi Agu, a first-year, beat Ohio State senior Talia Weiss in the round of 32 upset.
The Big Red will return to Columbus tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 29, for the Ohio State Duals.
