GRANVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 22) – The Denison University women's tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend Sunday when it completed its two-day Big Red Invitational.
Three members of the Big Red earned multiple victories in singles play. Those included
Charlotte Johns (2-0),
Peyton Oda (2-1) and
Elizabeth Hoo (2-1).
Johns picked up a win over Utterback of Case Western Reserve by a 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 before adding a win Sunday over Lillia Walter of Otterbein. Both of Oda's wins came in straight-sets. Oda defeated Jenna Bell of Otterbein by 7-5, 7-5 scores.
Elizabeth Hoo secured wins over Leah Schleibaum of Ohio Northern in a third-set tiebreaker and by 6-0, 6-3 scores over Taryn Simmers of Otterbein.
Denison went a combined 5-5 overall in doubles play. Highlighting the Big Red's doubles efforts were the pairing of
Caroline Lopez and Johns, who put together a 2-1 effort this weekend. Lopez and Johns won by a 6-1 score over their opponents from Centre on Saturday. They then earned a 6-3 victory over their opponent from Case Western Reserve on Sunday.
The Big Red returns to competition at the ITA Central Region Championships on Sept. 27-29. The three-day event will be held in Kalamazoo, Mich.
