Krueger’s hat trick helps Big Red roll past Bison

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 2) – Jake Krueger recorded his first career hat trick to help the Denison University men's soccer team roll to a 7-0 victory over visiting Bethany College in Monday evening action at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.

"We started a little slower than I would have liked, but I thought we did a good job staying on the front foot and finding some goals," said head coach Brandon Bianco. "I'm glad we could get some valuable experience for our young guys and look forward to allowing the group to recover tomorrow."

The Big Red scored early and often in its rout of the Bison. Krueger opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute.

Denison added another goal off a perfectly executed corner kick. Zarius Eusebe's headed the ball into the back of the net off an assist from Kameron Kist. The Eusebe goal came in the 29th minute of play to make it 2-0 Denison at halftime.

Despite the Bison kicking off to start the second half, Denison wasted little time adding to its lead. Krueger added his second goal of the night, as he corralled a turnover right in front of the box and found the back of the net just 16 seconds into the second half.

Krueger finished off his first hat trick in the 52nd minute when he scored off a pass from Cameron McIntosh. The score swelled the lead to 4-0.

McIntosh picked up a goal of his own in the 62nd minute. Kameron Kist assisted the McIntosh score which made it 5-0. Miles Crosser got into the scoring act to extend the lead to 6-0. Crosser scored off a pass from Phil Koutsaftis

Denison added one additional goal late in the contest when Alex Homuth tallied his first collegiate goal. Persistence paid off for Homuth, who was rewarded for finding the back of the net after collecting a rebound after his initial shot was saved.  Homuth's score came in the 78th minute.

The Big Red held sizable advantages in shots (38-4), shots on goal (21-2) and corner kicks (14-2).

Zach Barr collected the win in net. Barr made two saves in 90 minutes of work.

Denison (1-0-1) continues its four-game homestand to start the season when they welcome Grove City College on Saturday, Sept. 7. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
