GRANVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 7) – The Denison University men's soccer team scored once in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over visiting Grove City College at the turf at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium on Saturday.
The win improves Denison to 2-0-1 on the season. The loss is the first for Grove City, who drops to 2-1.
"Credit to Grove City today. They played really hard for 90 minutes and disrupted some of what we wanted to do," said head coach
Brandon Bianco. "I'm glad we found the goals we needed and now we have to move forward to Monday."
Jake Krueger continued his hot start to the season. Krueger got the Big Red on the board in the 28th minute with an unassisted goal. The goal was the fourth this season for Krueger.
Fueled by the Krueger goal, Denison carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Big Red was able to add to its lead early in the second half. Denison tallied its second goal when
Cameron McIntosh was able to gather a loose ball near the end line and find
Kaden Kist for the score. The goal, which was the first for
Kaden Kist, came in the 63rd minute of play.
Tommy Prokos made one save in 90 minutes of work to pick up the win.
Denison limited Grove City's opportunities throughout the match. The Big Red held a 13-2 advantage in shots (4-1 shots on goal). Denison held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Big Red returns to action Monday, Sept. 9 when they host Capital University. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Granville.
