GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 9, 2024) – Denison University men's lacrosse outscored Hiram College 11-1 in the first quarter and kept the Terriers off the scoreboard the rest of the way en route to a 28-1 victory on Tuesday night at Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
It was a season-high in goals, assists (17) and points (45) for the Big Red, as it was in shots on goal (47) and groundballs (57).
Nate Kay scored the first two goals,
Luke Fisher scored the next three, and then goals by
Michael Cassidy,
Tommy Quinson and
Colin Donegan made it 8-0 before Hiram scored with 1:48 left in the first quarter.
Donegan (4 goals; 2 assists) led Denison with six points while Kay (4 goals; 1 assist), Fisher (4 goals; 1 assist), Quinson (3 goals; 2 assists) each scored five points and
Lawton Corrigan (3 goals; 1 assist) finished with four.
Donegan's numbers were good for a new career-high in both goals and points while Corrigan also had a career-high in points. In addition, Kay tied his career-high in both goals and points, Fisher had four goals and five points for the third straight game, and freshman
Mac Upton scored his first-career goal after winning the faceoff and charging downfield in just eight seconds to score with 7:43 left in the fourth quarter.
Grant Larson and
Colin MacLean were both 8-for-9 on faceoffs while
Sam Wadsworth was 4-for-8 and Upton was 3-for-6.
Andrew Randall,
Ethan Rice and
Collin Murphy all finished with four groundballs.
In goal,
Andrew Albert,
Will Creevy and
Brant Satterly all saw action for the second game in a row.
Now with an overall record of 7-5, Denison gets to two games above .500 for the first time this season and is now 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Denison is now 10-0 against Hiram (4-7, 0-4) since their first meeting in 2013 and has won by at least 22 goals in each of the last four meetings.
Next up, the Big Red will play on back-to-back days this weekend as they travel to Wittenberg University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, before hosting DePauw University at 1 p.m. the next day on Sunday, April 14.
