CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (April 6, 2024) – The Denison University men's lacrosse team returned to North Coast Athletic Conference action with a 20-9 road win at Wabash College on Saturday afternoon. Denison won all 18 faceoffs in the first half and finished by winning 27-of-31 for the game.
Grant Larson was 12-of-15 on faceoffs while
Colin MacLean was a perfect 8-for-8,
Sam Wadsworth was 4-for-5 and
Mac Upton was 3-for-3.
Nate Kay scored the opening goal a minute and a half in before Denison ultimately led 6-0 after
Luke Fisher's second goal of the first quarter with 3:40 on the clock.
Owen O'Neill's goal with 1:34 left in the first quarter, his first goal of the season, made it 7-1 Big Red after the opening period, and then Fisher's third goal of the first half made it 8-2 before back-to-back goals by
Tommy Quinson made it 10-2 with eight minutes left until halftime.
It was a 10-point (13-3) Denison lead at the break that became 15-3 after another goal by Kay and the fourth goal by Fisher in the first three-plus minutes of the third quarter.
Fisher finished with four goals and one assist for the second game in a row while Quinson had three goals and one assist and Kay had two goals and an assist.
Peter Tyack scored the first two goals of his career with a pair in the fourth quarter while
Nick Vance put two shots into the back of the net for the second game in a row.
In addition, freshman
Mason Ball scored his second goal in as many games with a goal in the second quarter while fellow-freshman
Connor Clark's goal with 51 seconds left was the first of his career.
Denison improves to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference this season and is now 10-0 all-time against Wabash. Wabash, meanwhile, which has already matched its single-season record for wins (7) and has set a program record for home victories in a season (4), falls to 7-3 overall, 0-2 in the NCAC and 4-1 at home.
Next up, the Big Red will host Hiram College at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9.
