Nate Kay scored the opening goal a minute and a half in before Denison ultimately led 6-0 after Luke Fisher's second goal of the first quarter with 3:40 on the clock.

Owen O'Neill's goal with 1:34 left in the first quarter, his first goal of the season, made it 7-1 Big Red after the opening period, and then Fisher's third goal of the first half made it 8-2 before back-to-back goals by Tommy Quinson made it 10-2 with eight minutes left until halftime.

It was a 10-point (13-3) Denison lead at the break that became 15-3 after another goal by Kay and the fourth goal by Fisher in the first three-plus minutes of the third quarter.
