GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 21, 2024) – The Denison University women's tennis team hosted its Senior Day on Sunday and came away with two wins on the day, 8-1 over DePauw University and 9-0 against Capital University.
In an important matchup against a DePauw team that was slated in the No. 3 spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings, Denison was able to clinch sole possession of second place for the upcoming NCAC Tournament. It was also the Big Red's second-straight runner-up finish in the regular season.
Denison won all three doubles matches against the Tigers by a score of 8-6 while
Peyton Oda won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles,
Caroline Kittle won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and
Caroline Lopez won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. In addition,
Elizabeth Hoo pulled out win in a third-set super tiebreaker, 8-7, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3), at No. 5 singles while
Anna Leach won 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 after a first-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles.
Then in its first matchup against Capital in 47 years (last meeting was 1977), Denison saw Oda and Hoo pull out an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while only one of the six singles matches saw the Comets win more than three games. The most dominant win was a 6-0, 6-0 victory for
Ariana Rodriguez at No. 6 singles.
In addition to earning 15 wins during the regular season for the second year in row with an overall record of 15-8, Denison also wrapped up North Coast Athletic Conference action 5-1 following its win over DePauw. Now, Denison's run at the NCAC Tournament will begin on Friday, May 3, at the College of Wooster.
Senior Day Recap:
- Kendall Schrader has posted career records of 28-10 in singles, 44-21 in doubles and 72-31 overall, and is currently tied for 24th all-time in career doubles wins in the Big Red record books. As a senior, Schrader is 8-5 in singles and 17-6 in doubles, including a record of 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
- Casey Schrader is a student assistant coach for the Big Red women's tennis team, a position he has held for the past two seasons.
