GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 14, 2024) – The No. 24-ranked Denison University women's tennis team defeated Oberlin College 7-2 on Sunday morning to improve to 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference before also taking down Earlham College by a score of 9-0 in nonconference action later on in the afternoon to wrap up a pair of home matches at the Denison Tennis Courts.
Against Oberlin,
Caroline Kittle and
Peyton Oda dominated 8-0 at No. 3 doubles while the pairings of
Dasha Chistyakova and
Maia Nowicki (No. 1 doubles) and
Kendall Schrader and
Caroline Lopez (No. 2 doubles) both won by a score of 8-3.
In singles, Kittle,
Elizabeth Hoo and
Anna Leach all won 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively, while Lopez won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. In the final two matches, Denison did fall at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
In its first matchup against Earlham since the 2010 season,
Ariana Rodriguez and Kittle (No. 3 doubles) won 8-0 while Chistyakova and Lopez (No. 1 doubles) and Hoo and Oda (No. 2 doubles) each won by a score of 8-1.
Kittle, Leach and Hoo then all won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Chistyakova and Lopez both won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and No. 4 singles while in the final match at No. 1 singles, Oda pulled out a 6-4, 6-0 win over Madisen Cherry.
Denison improves to 13-7 overall with the two wins and is now 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Next up will be the potential deciding match in the NCAC Championship race as the Big Red head to Gambier, Ohio, to take on No. 36 Kenyon College starting at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17.
