SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (March 28, 2024) – The No. 31-ranked Denison University women's tennis team played in its second North Coast Athletic Conference match on the road in as many days and finished with a 7-2 win at Wittenberg University on Thursday afternoon.
Dasha Chistyakova and
Anna Leach were victorious 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In the other two doubles spots, however,
Kendall Schrader and
Caroline Lopez (No. 1 doubles) and
Caroline Kittle and
Peyton Oda (No. 2 doubles) both had to battle back from a deficit to earn an 8-6 victory.
Lopez won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to make it 4-0 Big Red.
Chistyakova won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Leach was victorious 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot.
Elizabeth Hoo won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to make it 7-0 before Kittle came up short in a tiebreaker in her first set at No. 2 singles and ultimately lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
In a third-set super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, Oda lost 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
It was Denison's seventh win in a row as the Big Red improved to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wittenberg, meanwhile, dropped what was its conference opener, fell to 9-3 overall, and suffered its first home loss at 4-1.
In addition, it was Denison's 51st win all-time against Wittenberg (51-2) and was its 46th straight win against the Tigers since 1984, but it was the first time the Tigers earned two wins in a match against the Big Red since 2009.
Next up for Denison will be the Midwest Invitational on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, in Madison, Wisconsin.
