WOOSTER, Ohio (March 1, 2024) – The No. 20 Denison University women's tennis team played its first North Coast Athletic Conference match of the 2024 season on Friday and also picked up its first win of the season as the Big Red won 9-0 at the College of Wooster.
Dasha Chistyakova and
Caroline Lopez defeated Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita 8-2 at No. 1 doubles and
Caroline Kittle and
Maia Nowicki defeated Abby Aitken and Abigail Williams 8-3 in the No. 2 spot.
In singles, the Big Red won a pair of third-set super tiebreakers as Chistyakova defeated Oita 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10) at the No. 1 spot while Lopez came back to beat Williams 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2) at No. 3 singles.
In addition, Kittle defeated Jagannathan 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Nowicki defeated Aitken 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot and
Elizabeth Hoo won 6-0, 6-1 over Margaret Steward at No. 5 singles.
Denison also had walkover wins at both the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles spots.
The Big Red improved to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC and are now 49-0 all-time against Wooster, which dropped to 1-6 and 0-1.
Next up, Denison will host both Kalamazoo College (9 a.m.) and No. 17 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University (2 p.m.) on Sunday, March 3.
