No. 19 men’s lacrosse earns first win of the season at Albion

ALBION, Mich. (February 24, 2024) – The No. 19 Denison University men's lacrosse team played in its first road game of the 2024 season on Saturday and picked up its first win of the year after outscoring Albion College 9-4 in the second quarter and ultimately coming out on top by a final score of 14-11 over the Britons.

Denison (1-1 overall) trialed 3-2 after Albion (1-1) scored three goals in the final two and a half minutes of the first quarter, but then tied at 8-8 in the final four minutes of the second quarter, the Big Red gave the Britons some of their own medicine and rattled off four straight goals to take a 12-8 lead into the break.

Luke Fisher accounted for three of those four goals to end the second quarter for the Big Red and had seven points total (5 goals, 2 assists) in the first half.

Fisher added another goal halfway through the third quarter to make it a 5-0 Big Red run, but the Britons scored three of the final four goals of the game to make it close at the end. Albion outshot Denison 18-9 in the fourth quarter.

Fisher (6 goals, 3 assists) finished with nine points while Tommy Quinson and Nick Vance both scored twice.

The Big Red won 23 of 28 faceoffs as Grant Larson, the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Specialist and Newcomer of the Year, was 15-for-19 with a team-high 12 groundballs. Colin MacLean, meanwhile, was 8-for-9 on faceoffs.

Sophomore Andrew Albert made eight saves and picked up his first-career win in goal while being backed up by Brooks Crowley with six caused turnovers.

Denison will return home to host Baldwin Wallace University at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, from the new Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
