GRANVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 9) -- The Denison University women's squash team gained a split of its matches Saturday in action inside the Mitchell Center. The Big Red swept William Smith to open the day before falling by a 6-3 score to Dickinson in the evening.
Denison 9, William Smith 0
The Big Red secured a clean sweep victory in their Liberty League opener with a 9-0 blanking of William Smith.
Charlotte Johns finished off the sweep for Denison with a five-set win at the top spot. Johns worked back from an early hole after dropping the first two sets. Johns won the third 11-5 and then the fourth set 11-7. Johns finished off the comeback win with an 11-5 victory at the fifth spot.
Amelia Keng won 11-7, 11-3 and 11-2 at the second spot.
Antoinette Ramsey coasted to a 11-3, 11-2 and 11-1 win at the third position.
Helena Fournaris,
Esme Adelman and
Tess Lanza won in the 4-5-6 spots in straight sets.
Madeleine Ruggie won 11-5, 11-3 and 11-1 at the seventh spot. In the eighth position,
Charlotte Sigg won 11-5, 11-1 and 11-1. Rounding things out was an 11-1, 11-6 and 11-5 victory at ninth spot by
Virginia Lawrence.
Dickinson 6, Denison 3
The Big Red fell by a 6-3 score to Dickinson in the evening match.
Picking up wins for Denison were Lanza, Ruggie and Sigg. Lanza won in straight sets by scores of 11-5, 11-4 and 11-3. Lanza, the first-year, finished the day with a 2-0 record.
Ruggie and Siggie won by default at eight and nine.
Up Next: Denison heads to New England to face Colby, Bates and Brown on Dec. 6-8.
