CARLISLE, Pa. (January 21, 2024) – The No. 28 Denison University women's squash team started off the Spring portion of its 2023-24 schedule with a 6-2 win over Brown University, followed by a tough 5-4 defeat against No. 27 Connecticut College on Friday in a pair of neutral-site matches played at Fordham University. Then on Saturday in another neutral-court matchup against No. 32 Bard College in New York, the Big Red earned an 8-0 win that featured the first-career victory for No. 8-seeded Golda Mehl. Lastly, Denison fell 8-0 against No. 6 nationally-ranked the University of Virginia in more neutral-court action at Dickinson College on Sunday.

Denison won at each the No. 2 through No. 7 seeds against Brown as Esme Adelman (No. 2 seed), Lane Harding (No. 4 seed), Virginia Lawrence (No. 5 seed), Charlotte Sigg (No. 6 seed) and Hannah Best (No. 7 seed) all earned 3-0 wins. Harding surrendered only eight points in her match against Anji Friedbauer while Lawrence only gave up nine against Sydney Rains. At the top seed, Antoinette Ramsey fell in a hard-fought five-set match (6-11, 11-9, 11-1, 9-11, 11-8) against Saisha Gupta.

Then in the second match of the day on Friday against Connecticut College, Ramsey earned a 3-0 win (7-11, 3-11, 13-15) in the top spot over Rachel Matamoros. In addition, Harding, Lawrence and Sigg each picked up their second win of the day while Harding pulled out a five-set win (11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 11-0) at the No. 4 seed and Sigg did the same (11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3) at the No. 6 seed. Lastly, Adelman dropped a five-setter (11-5, 6-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9) herself at the No. 2 seed that could have swung the match into Denison's favor.

All eight Big Red players earned a 3-0 sweep against Bard with Mehl winning 11-9, 12-10, 11-0 at the No. 8 spot. Harding (11-0, 11-2, 11-1) and Best (11-1, 11-2, 11-0) gave up only three points in their wins at the No. 4 and No. 7 seeds, respectively.

Lastly, Denison's top performances against Virginia saw Ramsey (11-2, 11-7, 11-3) win 12 points at the No. 1 seed while Best (11-2, 11-1, 11-9) had Denison's closest single set in the third set at the No. 7 seed.

Next up, Denison will host the Big Red Invitational on Saturday, February 3, and Sunday, February 4.
