GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 7, 2023) – The No. 22-ranked Denison University women's tennis team hosted the College of Wooster on Friday evening at the Denison Tennis Courts and came away with a 9-0 victory over the Fighting Scots to improve to 4-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
The Big Red, who are ranked fourth in the ITA Division III Central Region, also moved their overall record to 13-4 while Wooster, which is ranked No. 12 in the region, dropped to 9-6 and 1-3.
It was the end of a four-match homestand for the Big Red, who are playing six of their final seven matches of the regular season at home and are also now halfway through a stretch of four straight conference matches.
Sarah Robertson and
Sydney Cianciola got the match started with an 8-2 win over Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan at No. 1 doubles.
Monique Brual and
Caroline Lopez (No. 2 doubles) and
Peyton Oda and
Sofia Zafiropulos (No. 3 doubles) both won by scores of 8-6.
In singles, Cianciola won 6-1, 6-0 over Oita in the top spot, Brual won 6-0, 6-1 over Charitha Patrolla at No. 3 singles,
Kendall Schrader was victorious 6-1, 6-0 over Abby Aitken at No. 6 singles, and Lopez defeated Abigail Williams 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Robertson fell 6-0 in the first set against Jagannathan before battling back with a 6-4 win in the second set and a 10-5 win in the third-set super tiebreaker.
At No. 4 singles, Oda defeated Kim Nguyen 6-4 in set number one before coming up short, 7-6 (8-6), in a tiebreaker in the second set and pulling out a 10-7 win in the third-set super tiebreaker to finish off the sweep.
Next up, Denison will play its final road match of the regular season as the Big Red travel to Oberlin College for an 11 a.m. start tomorrow on Saturday, April 8.
