WOOSTER, Ohio (April 27, 2023) – The No. 14 Denison University men's lacrosse team won 14-4 over the College of Wooster on Thursday night at Wooster High School. With one game remaining in the regular season, Denison (13-3 overall, 6-1 NCAC) remains tied for first place in the NCAC standings with just one loss and in two days, will have a chance to clinch a share of its second straight NCAC regular-season championship in two years under the leadership of Head Coach
Eric Koch.
Gavin Pappas scored first on the assist from
Ethan Tyack just over three minutes in before back-to-back goals by
Luke Fisher made it 3-0 Big Red halfway through the first quarter.
After a goal by Wooster in the final minute of the opening period,
Grant Larson won the ensuing faceoff and ran right down the field to score it and give the momentum back to Denison up 5-2 after the end of the first quarter.
That started a 5-0 Big Red run as the second goal of the game by
Tommy Quinson made it 6-2 less than a minute and a half into the second quarter, and then less than three and a half minutes later,
Tristan Moss found Fisher in front of the goal to make it 7-2 Big Red.
Tyack scored to make it 8-2 with just under five minutes left before halftime, and that score held for the next 15-plus minutes until a goal by
Clyde Bresnahan assisted by Fisher made it 9-2 with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Quinn O'Donnell scored on an assist from Tyack to make it 10-3 in the final minute of the third quarter, and then the fourth quarter started with another assist from Tyack on a goal by
Nate Kay just under three and a half minutes in before Kay assisted on a goal by
Nick Vance to make it 12-3 just 26 seconds later.
O'Donnell then assisted on another goal by Kay, his 25th goal of the season, to cap another 5-0 Denison run and give the Big Red their largest lead of the game (14-3) with seven minutes remaining.
Fisher (3 goals, 1 assist), Tyack (1 goal, 3 assists) and Kay (2 goals, 2 assists) each finished with four points while Quinson scored twice and added five groundballs.
Brendan Flynn and
Owen O'Neill both finished with two caused turnovers while defender
Douglas Brooks tied his career-high with six groundballs.
Next up, Denison will wrap up the regular season with its Senior Day against Wabash College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.
