GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 23, 2023) – 13 players accounted for 21 goals as No. 16-ranked Denison University defeated Albion College, 21-13, on Sunday afternoon at Piper Stadium.
The Big Red asserted themselves early against the Britons, leading 7-1 after a goal by
Luke Fisher in the final minute of the first quarter.
Then in the final minute of the second quarter, a goal by
Ethan Tyack assisted by Fisher made it 11-4 Big Red at halftime.
The Denison lead grew to nine points (15-6) with 7:30 left in the third quarter after goals just 14 seconds apart by
Andrew Brim and Tyack.
Then in the fourth quarter, three goals in a span of 37 seconds by
Tommy Quinson, Fisher and
Owen O'Neill made it a 10-goal margin at 21-11 with 7:47 left to play.
Fisher led all players with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) while Tyack was right behind him with seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) and
Nate Kay added a hat trick with three goals and one assist.
Fisher has now dished out five assists in three of Denison's last four games. He has also recorded eight or more points in a game three times this season.
Juniors
Jack Sload and O'Neill both scored their first goals of the season.
Grant Larson won 15-of-23 faceoffs and recorded 12 groundballs while
Colin MacLean won 11-for-15 and finished with nine groundballs.
Douglas Brooks led the defensive side of the ball with four caused turnovers while goalkeeper
Archer Darrach finished with 15 saves.
Albion committed 11 turnovers in both halves and was only 19-for-33 on clear attempts.
Denison (11-3 overall) improves to 6-0 all-time against the Britons since their first meeting in 2012 while Albion (11-4), meanwhile, suffers it first loss on the road this season at 6-1 and saw its streaks of seven straight wins and six games in a row with 21 or more goals scored both come to an end.
Next up will be a very busy final week of the regular season for the Big Red, who play at Hiram College starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, and will then take on the College of Wooster at Wooster High School starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, all before hosting Wabash College for Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.
