GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 1, 2023) – The No. 22-ranked Denison University women's tennis team started off the final month of the regular season on a high note as the Big Red defeated Wittenberg University 8-1 to improve to 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Denison also defeated Franciscan University by a score of 9-0 to wrap up the day on Saturday.
For Denison (11-4 overall) against Wittenberg (6-7, 0-1),
Monique Brual and
Sarah Robertson battled to an 8-7 (7-1) tiebreak over Caroline Sproule and Ashley Isaac in the top spot while
Caroline Lopez and
Kendall Schrader defeated Paige Myers and Claire Sullivan 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and
Peyton Oda and
Elizabeth Hoo earned an 8-3 win over Claire Stechow and Kelsey Smith at No. 3 doubles.
In singles,
Caroline Kittle defeated Stechow 6-2, retired in the fourth spot, and then Lopez clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Myers in the three hole.
Sofia Zafiropulos added a 6-1,6-0 win over Sullivan in the five spot before Oda came back to win in a third-set super tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6), over Sproule in the two spot.
The final match was a 6-0, 6-1 win for Hoo over Smith in the No. 6 spot.
Then against Franciscan (11-8), the Big Red were able to tweak their lineup while still recording the sweep.
Hannah Quick and
Kennedy Herring dominated in an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles,
Alessandra Ceccarelli and
Anna Leach won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, and Kittle and Zafiropulos earned an 8-6 win in the top spot.
Oda started off singles by winning 6-3, 1-0, retired in the top spot before Leach earned an easy 6-0, 6-0 win in the fourth position.
To finish off the day, Quick rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles; Ceccarelli won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles; Schrader won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles; and Herring also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
