GRANVILLE, Ohio (March 30, 2023) – The United States Fencing Coaches Association is pleased to announce the 2023 slate of NCAA Fencing All-American teams, and both freshmen
Velma Hall (foil) and
Natalie Isberg (sabre) of the Denison University women's fencing team have been named Honorable Mention All-Americans for Division III. The recipients of these awards are determined by an evaluation of their regular season performance and postseason performance, including both NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships.
Hall placed 13th in foil at regionals and led the Big Red in foil wins (74) as a rookie. She ended the regular season as the highest ranked Division III foilist in the country and was named Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) second-team all-conference with a seventh-place finish in the individual foil competition. She was also named the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Denise O'Connor Foil Fencer of the Year after dominating the field with a first-place finish in foil to earn her first-career first-team all-conference honor.
Isberg became the first Denison fencer in history to break through into the top-12 at NCAA Regionals where she ultimately placed 12th in sabre. Isberg finished the season with 48 wins in sabre and like Hall, was named CCFC second-team all-conference with a 14th-place finish in the individual sabre competition. She also took second place in sabre to earn her first-career first-team all-conference honor at the EWFCÂ Championships.
