ADRIAN, Mich. (March 26, 2023) – Playing in its first doubleheader against the same opponent so far this season, the No. 14 Denison University baseball team earned wins of 11-3 and 6-0 at Adrian College on Sunday in Michigan.

Game 1 (No. 14 Denison 11, Adrian 3):
  • Denison scored three unearned runs in a top of the second inning that featured four errors by the Bulldogs but no hits by the Big Red.
  • Charlie Fleming (3-1) pitched 1-2-3 innings in both the first and second innings and picked off a base runner in the third inning.
  • With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Erik Sundgren singled and was followed by a two-run homer by Eric Colaco to make it 5-0 Big Red.
  • A solo home run got Adrian onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, but then in the top of the fifth inning, back-to-back hit by pitches by Eli Aronson and Sundgren loaded the bases with two outs for Colaco, who walked to score Ari Fierer, who had led off the inning with a single to left field.
  • Charlie Glennon proceeded to clear the bases with a three-run triple to center field, and then the fifth inning came full circle as Fierer followed with another single to score Glennon and make it 10-1 Big Red.
  • Fleming tossed another 1-2-3 inning in the sixth, and then Glennon made his presence felt again with a one-out double to left field before advancing to third on a flyout and then scoring on a two-out single to right field by Jake Welsch to make it 11-3 in the top of the seventh.
  • Glennon finished 4-for-6 with a double, a triple and two stolen bases. He was one of four Big Red players with two runs scored while he and Colaco both finished with three RBI's.
  • Fleming pitched seven innings allowing six hits, three runs and one walk to go along with six strikeouts to earn the win.

Game 2 (No. 14 Denison 6, Adrian 0):
  • After Sundgren led off game two with a single to center field, Glennon got his fourth RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 1-0 Big Red.
  • Still 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Big Red gave themselves some separation as Welsch led off with a walk and Josh Bohn singled before a sacrifice bunt by Owen Wilson put two runners into scoring position. Kuyper Lashutka then came through with a two-run double to left field before a two-out RBI single to center by Colaco.
  • The top of the fourth inning continued as a double steal by Colaco and Glennon again put two runners into scoring position, and then an error by the Bulldogs left fielder allowed both runners to score to make it 6-0 Big Red.
  • Colaco and Bohn both finished 2-for-5 while the Big Red also finished with six stolen bases, including two by both Colaco and Glennon.
  • On the mound, Nick Falter (2-0) stranded two runners on base in the first inning, got a groundball double play to end the inning in both the second and fourth innings, and then pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning. He finished with 5.1 innings pitched allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six.
  • Ryan Starr finished off a 1-2-3 sixth inning with back-to-back swinging strikeouts while Will Rettig benefited from the third and fourth groundball double plays turned by the Big Red defense in the seventh and eighth innings.
  • Manny Nager finished off the game in the ninth to help preserve the combined shutout.
