Fisher leads No. 12 Big Red in conference opener

GRANVILLE, Ohio (March 25, 2023) – Luke Fisher finished with two goals and seven assists to help lead the No. 12 nationally-ranked Denison University men's lacrosse team to a 20-7 win over Wittenberg University in its first North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon inside Piper Stadium.

In addition to Fisher's nine points, Ethan Tyack (4 goals, 2 assists) added six points while Nate Kay (3 goals, 2 assists) had five.

Denison led 5-1 after the first quarter as Fisher scored the first goal of the game and then assisted on each of Denison's next three goals to break a 1-1 tie.

The three assists by Fisher were also just the start of an 8-0 Big Red run between the first and second quarters that made it 9-1 on a goal by Fisher with 7:25 left before halftime.

Fisher accounted for two goals and five assists on Denison's first nine goals while Tyack scored three and added two assists during that same stretch.

Denison once again dominated the faceoffs (20-of-31) as Grant Larson was 11-for-16 with eight groundballs and Colin MacLean was 6-for-8 with five groundballs.

Andrew Brim recorded seven groundballs while Brooks Crowley finished with four caused turnovers.

Archer Darrach finished with seven saves, a .583 save percentage and five groundballs.

Denison improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC with what was its 14th straight win over Wittenberg (3-5, 0-1) dating back to 2012. The Big Red are also now 45-2 all-time against the Tigers.

Next up, the Big Red will wrap up their current four-game homestand with a nonconference matchup against Transylvania University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29.
