Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 12 men’s lacrosse pushes winning streak to five

GRANVILLE, Ohio (March 29, 2023) – The No. 12 nationally-ranked Denison University men's lacrosse team continued its hot start to the season with a 17-6 victory in nonconference action over Transylvania University on Wednesday at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

The formula for success for the Big Red this season has been an easy one, they are undefeated when scoring 10 or more goals.

In addition to being the end of an undefeated four-game homestand for the Big Red that started with an upset win over the No. 2-ranked team in NCAA Division III at the time, Wednesday was also the first-ever meeting between Denison (7-1 overall) and Transylvania (1-8).

Denison only scored twice in the first quarter on goals by Tommy Quinson assisted by Tristan Moss and then by Jack Hines assisted by Luke Fisher, but the Big Red defense limited Transylvania to just three shots in the first quarter to go along with nine turnovers, a 4-for-10 conversion rate on clears, and no faceoff wins.

In all, Denison led it 6-0 to start and kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard until the final six minutes of the first half. Then after a five-goal lead at halftime (7-2), the Big Red scored three straight to open the second half and make it 10-2.

Quinson finished with five goals while Hines had three, both career-highs for the pair of sophomores, but it was Fisher (2 goals, 4 assists) who led the Big Red in points.

Ethan Tyack (1 goal, 3 assists) added four points while Lawton Corrigan found the back of the net twice and Colin Donegan had two assists.

Denison won 21-of-27 faceoffs as Grant Larson was 13-for-17 with 10 groundballs and Colin MacLean was 7-for-9 with seven groundballs.

The Big Red will now turn their attention to a tough North Coast Athletic Conference contest on the road at Kenyon College starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, for a rematch of the 2022 NCAC Tournament Championship, in which the Big Red prevailed. The Owls are 7-1 on the season with their only loss coming in their conference opener to Ohio Wesleyan University (10-8).
