No. 12 men’s lacrosse hammers Grove City, 23-9

GRANVILLE, Ohio (March 22, 2023) – After moving up six spots to No. 12 in the latest USILA/Dynamic 2023 Men's Coaches Division III Poll following its 10-9 win over No. 2-ranked Gettysburg College on Saturday, the Denison University men's lacrosse team kept its momentum going with a 23-9 victory over Grove City College on a rainy Wednesday night inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

Denison (5-1 overall) broke a 1-1 tie with a stretch of five straight goals that featured two goals and two assists by Luke Fisher.

Gavin Pappas scored the final goal of the first half to make it 11-4 Big Red at the break before opening the scoring with the first goal of the second half.

Two goals later, Pappas assisted on a goal by  Fisher to make it a 10-point game (14-4) with seven minutes left in the third quarter; and then Fisher and Tommy Quinson scored back-to-back goals assisted by Ethan Tyack to open up the fourth quarter and make it 17-7.

In all for the fourth quarter, the Big Red outscored Grove City (2-6) 8-2 and at one point scored six goals in a row, three of which came courtesy of Nate Kay, who was the unsung hero during Denison's NCAA Tournament win over the Wolverines last season.

Denison won 29 of 35 faceoffs and was led by Grant Larson with a 19-for-21 effort to go along with 13 groundballs while Colin MacLean was a perfect 10-for-10 with six groundballs.

Offensive leaders for the Big Red included Tyack with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) and Fisher with seven (4 goals, 3 assists).

Next up, the Big Red will bring their current three-game winning streak into the start of North Coast Athletic Conference action as Denison hosts Wittenberg University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.
