CANTON, N.Y. (February 4, 2023) – The No. 23 Denison University women's squash team started off its debut in the Liberty League Championship with a 7-0 win over No. 31 Vassar College on Saturday at the Robie Squash Center in Canton, New York. However, the Big Red ended the day with an 8-0 defeat to No. 27 St. Lawrence University, and will have two more matches remaining on Sunday in the five-team round-robin championship format.

Denison was dominant in its win over Vassar as the Big Red held the Brewers to 10 points or less in each of the five matches that were played, with the most one-sided effort coming from Lane Harding with an 11-1, 11-2, 11-1 win at the No. 3 seed.

Denison's best effort against St. Lawrence was a near comeback win, 3-2 (11-5, 11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 11-4), for Harding at the No. 3 seed. Lindsey Cruikshank finished just two points away from forcing a fifth set in a 3-1 (11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9) loss at the No. 4 seed, and Natalie Stanchina also put together a very competitive 13-11, 11-9, 13-11 result at the No. 8 seed as she lost each set by only two points and took two of them to extra scoring.

St. Lawrence is the defending Liberty League champion, having won three of the last four league titles, including a Liberty League-best four overall.

The Big Red will return to action at St. Lawrence tomorrow, Sunday, February 5, for their final two matches of the Liberty League Championship. The team with the best record in its four matches will be crowned Liberty League champion. Denison will start the day with a very difficult match against No. 13-ranked William Smith College at 9 a.m. before finishing things off against No. 42 Bard College at 11:30 a.m.
