GAMBIER, Ohio (February 18, 2023) – With a focus on improving times for NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship qualification, members of the No. 7 Denison University men's swimming team participated in the annual Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational on Saturday, bringing an end to the regular season.
Headlining the day's performances for Denison was
Gavin Jones and
Luke Landis. Jones was second in the 200 breaststroke with a "B" cut time of 2:00.92 while also swimming a "B" cut time of 1:59.85 in the time trial. Landis, meanwhile, finished with a "B" cut time of 15:41.10 in the 1,650 freestyle time trial.
Christian McIntire finished third in the 500 freestyle with a "B" cut time of 4:36.80 while
Patrick Madden was fourth at 4:37.47.
Christian Narcelles won the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.02.
Richie Stewart (21.03),
Dhinal Weerasinghe (21.11) and
Owen Leary (21.12) finished sixth through eighth in the 50 freestyle.
Connor Brown won the 400 IM with a "B" cut time of 3:58.79.
Eric Chimes was sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.26 seconds.
Max Soja was third in the 200 butterfly with a "B" cut time of 1:47.93 while also swimming a "B" cut time of 1:48.03 in the time trial.
Shea Card finished second with a "B" cut time of 49.64 seconds in the 100 backstroke. In all, Denison had six of the top-eight finishes in the 100 backstroke as
James Pastore (50.79) was third,
Patrick Daly (50.98) was fourth,
Aidan Lane (51.16) was fifth,
Nick Settembrine (51.41) was seventh and
Richie Kurlich (52.49) was eighth.
In the 100 breaststroke,
Franceso Assalone was second with a "B" cut time of 55.62 seconds while
Riccardo Ricciardi tied for fifth place at 56.23 seconds.
In the 1,650 freestyle,
Max Hutson-Comeaux was first with a time of 16:22.45. In addition to Landis,
Sam Myaard also swam a "B" cut time in the 1,650 freestyle time trial, finishing in 15:42.29.
Leary (46.24), Stewart (46.65) and Weerasinghe (46.69) finished fourth through sixth in the 100 freestyle.
Lastly, Pastore (1:50.44) and Card (1:57.41) were second and third, respectively, in the 200 backstroke.
Denison returns to action on March 15-18 at the NCAA Division III Championship. The Denison divers will be in action on February 24-25 at the NCAA Diving Regional that will be hosted by the University of Chicago.
