GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 24, 2023) – With a chance to clinch a spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on the line for the Denison University volleyball team, the Big Red defeated Kenyon College in four sets, 3-1 (25-9, 25-18, 22-25, 25-9), on Tuesday night inside Livingston Gymnasium.
Six Big Red players had five or more kills, led by
Corinne Boyd with 12 on .412 percent hitting,
Reagan Sass with 11 on .409 percent hitting, and
Cailey Johns with nine on .583 percent hitting.
Claire Hamilton added eight kills while
Ayla Dunbar had six and
Alice Kempf had five kills and added 42 assists.
Sadie Habeeb led the defensive effort with 16 digs while Sass had four assisted blocks.
Denison hit .312 percent with 13 kills and just two errors in the first set while holding Kenyon to a negative hitting percentage in each of the first two sets, but then the Owls won the third set behind the power of three service aces and five blocks.
In the fourth set, Denison hit .560 percent with 14 kills and not a single attack error while recording three aces and three blocks as well.
With only one conference match remaining, Denison improves its record to 10-13 overall and 3-3 in the NCAC while Kenyon, which was coming off its first conference victory of the season, 3-2, over Wooster on its Senior Day on Saturday, falls to 4-18 and 1-5.
Next up, Denison will wrap up conference action at home against Wittenberg University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 28.
