GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 28, 2023) – Wittenberg University handed Denison University a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-16) defeat in what was the final North Coast Athletic Conference match of the regular season for both teams. The Tigers finished the match with 11 service aces and six blocks.

Denison was held to -.107 percent hitting (5 kills; 8 errors) in the first set while Wittenberg hit .280 percent (10 kills; 3 errors) and added four aces and three blocks.

Wittenberg did its damage in the first set with a 7-0 run starting with a Big red service error and ending with back-to-back aces and an assisted blocked to make it 9-3, and then a 5-0 run starting with four straight kills and ending with another ace made it 14-5.

Denison tried to bounce back in the second set and hit .289 percent (14 kills, 3 errors), but the Tigers were just a little bit better at .300 percent (15 kills, 3 errors) while adding three more aces and three more blocks to their total.

The Big Red were led by Claire Hamilton and Sophia Sobota (.316 percent) with seven kills apiece while Cailey Johns and Corinne Boyd (.357 percent) both added five.

Denison finishes up conference play at 3-4 and is now 10-14 overall while Wittenberg improves to 10-13 and 5-2.

Next up, Denison will host Otterbein University in its final home match of the regular season starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1. Then that weekend on Saturday, November 4, the Big Red will head to Ada, Ohio, for the NCAC/OAC Crossover hosted at Ohio Northern University.
