GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 14, 2023) – Four different players scored a goal to help the Denison University men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Wittenberg University on Senior Day on a wet and rainy Saturday night.
Prior to the match, Denison recognized its two seniors,
Chris Giglio and
Rohan Tripathy, for their time and dedication to the DU men's soccer program over the last four years. These seniors have to date won 31 matches in their time on campus, including winning 12 matches and capturing the NCAC Tournament Championship in 2021. Additionally, these seniors have also helped the program earn the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches during each of the last three academic years.
The first shot of the match came from almost 30 yards out by Wittenberg and hit the crossbar in the 13th minute, but Denison was not rattled and struck first in the 16th minute as
Cameron McIntosh intercepted the pass from the Tigers' goalkeeper and scored the opening goal of the match.
A team save by Wittenberg on a shot by
Henri Heyes in the 18th minute prevented a quick second goal for the time being, but it did not take long for Denison to double up its lead as a cross by
Corey Brunner found its way to
Jake Krueger, who put it in on his second attempt in the 24th minute.
That was followed by a red card on the Wittenberg goalkeeper as the Tigers were forced to play a man down the rest of the way.
With a field player playing in goal, a shot by Brunner was just saved by the new keeper, Ethan Archer, in the 25th minute.
Archer made another save on a shot by
Phil Koutsaftis in the in the 32nd minute while Denison's
Tommy Prokos had to make his only save of the match in the final two minutes of the first half.
In the second half, Archer saved another one of Brunner's shots in the 48th minute while
Zarius Eusebe missed right just over 30 seconds later.
Denison added a penalty kick goal by
Kameron Kist in the 59th minute despite a great effort by Archer, and then a free kick by
Michael Sullivan turned into a goal in the 72nd minute.
"Tonight was a really good performance and a nice cap to a six-point week," spoke
