GAMBIER, Ohio (May 1, 2022) – For the 13th time in program history and for the first time since 2016, the Denison University women's tennis team won the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship as the Big Red defeated Kenyon College by a final score of 5-3 in a four-and-a-half-hour long match on Sunday inside the Jasper Tennis Center.

Monique Brual and Caroline Lopez teamed up at No. 2 doubles to get the Big Red off to a good start as they were victorious by a score of 8-6.

At the other doubles matches, Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson fell 8-4 in the top spot while Susan Biederstedt and Hannah Bradvica lost in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4), in the three hole.

Just like they did in their regular-season matchup against the Ladies, the Big Red won each of the first two singles matches to take a 3-2 lead as this time, Bradvica won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles while Brual come out on top 6-3, 6-0 in the third position.

Then after Cianciola fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Robertson earned a big 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) third-set super tiebreaker win at No. 2 singles in what could have been a big swing match.

Lastly, just like she did during the regular season against Kenyon, Lopez provided the match-clinching victory, this time coming back to win a third-set super tiebreaker of her own by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).

With the win, Denison, which is ranked No. 30 nationally and No. 5 in the ITA Central Region, improved to 14-7 overall while Kenyon, which is ranked No. 21 nationally and No. 4 in the region, dropped to 13-10. It was also the end of a run of four straight conference titles for the Ladies.

Denison earns the NCAC's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship. The championship field will be announced on Monday, May 9, on NCAA.com.
