No. 30 women’s tennis sweeps DePauw to win NCAC West Division

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (April 9, 2022) – For the third time under the direction of Head Coach Jamie Scott, the No. 30 Denison University women's tennis team clinched the North Coast Athletic Conference West Division with a win over DePauw University. This time around, it was a 9-0 win for the Big Red in what began as a battle between a pair of 2-0 divisional teams.

The sweep of the doubles action saw Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson win 8-2 to improve to 9-2 together this season, all at No. 1 doubles.

Additionally, both the pairs of Monique Brual and Hannah Bradvica (No. 2 doubles, W 8-1) and Susan Biederstedt and Elizabeth Hoo (No. 3 doubles, win 8-3) played together for the first time so far this season.

Then in singles, Denison kept it rolling with wins of 6-3, 6-2 by Cianciola in the top spot, 6-1, 6-0 by Robertson in the two hole, 6-2, 6-2 by Brual at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1 by Bradvica at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1 by Biederstedt at No. 5 singles, and 6-2, 6-4 by Hoo in the six spot.

Brual now leads the Big Red with a 10-4 record in singles overall and is 6-3 at No. 3 singles while Robertson improved to 8-6 overall and Cianciola improved to 6-3.

The win for Hoo made her 3-1 overall, all at No. 6 singles, which the win for Biederstedt was her first singles win of the season.

In addition to winning the NCAC West Division with a perfect 3-0 record, the Big Red also reached the 10-win mark (10-4) for the third time under Coach Scott while DePauw dropped to 5-12 overall and 2-1 in the division.

With the NCAC Tournament set for April 29-May 1 in Gambier, Ohio, Denison still has four nonconference matches remaining on its regular-season schedule. The next three, however, are all against nationally-ranked teams, beginning against No. 19 Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, April. 15. The next day on Saturday, April 16, the Big Red will take on the challenge presented by the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the University of Chicago.
