GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 5, 2022) – The No. 29 Denison University women's tennis team earned its second 8-1 win in two North Coast Athletic Conference West Division matches so far this season after defeating Wittenberg University by the same score on Tuesday evening inside the Mitchell Fieldhouse.
Denison started off with a sweep of the doubles action as
Hannah Bradvica and
Kendall Schrader earned an 8-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles,
Monique Brual and
Caroline Lopez won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles, and
Sydney Cianciola and
Sarah Robertson won 8-2 in the top spot.
The Big Red then clinched the match with two quick wins in singles action as Brual won 6-2, 6-2 in the three spot and Robertson won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
The wins continued as Cianciola won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Bradvica won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, and Lopez won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
In the final match to finish,
Susan Biederstedt lost in a third set super tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, falling 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Denison improved to 9-4 overall, 2-0 in the NCAC West and 4-1 at home on the season while Wittenberg dropped to .500 overall at 7-7 and finished its divisional slate 1-2.
Next up for Denison will be a match to win the NCAC West Division at DePauw University at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9. Both the Big Red and the Tigers are currently 2-0 in divisional play after DePauw defeated Ohio Wesleyan University 6-3 and Wittenberg 5-4 earlier this season.
