Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Denison secures 20th NCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (April 30, 2022) – With its 20-6 win on the road at Wittenberg University on Saturday, the Denison University men's lacrosse officially secured sole possession of first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference men's lacrosse standings and earned its 20th NCAC regular-season championship in program history.

It was the fourth game in a row Denison scored at least 20 goals as after the first goal of the game went to the Tigers two minutes and 18 seconds in, the Big Red scored six goals in a row to close out the first quarter.

Ethan Tyack either scored or assisted on all but one of those first six goals for Denison.

Then after Wittenberg again scored the first goal of the second quarter, Denison again scored six straight goals, including two more goals by Tyack to give him four on the day. Those six straight goals gave Denison a 12-2 advantage before a third goal by the Tigers in the final second before halftime.

Tyack would finish with four goals and three assists on the day for a total of seven points, but it was Camden Bowdy who added two more goals and an assist in the fourth quarter to end up leading the Big Red in points (8) as he matched Tyack with four goals but also added four assists.

Nate Kay was the third Big Red player to score four goals on Saturday while Luke Fisher finished with two goals and one assist and Gavin Pappas also added two goals.

Faceoff specialist Davis Cronin was 16-for-19 while adding eight groundballs, and Owen O'Neill added six groundballs and two caused turnovers.

In goal, Archer Darrach made four saves in the opening three quarters to improve to 11-1 on the season while TJ Spahn made his first appearance since an injury on March 19 and made two saves in his 15 minutes.

The Big Red finished up the regular season 13-4 overall, 9-0 in the NCAC, 8-0 at home, and with eight wins in a row. Additionally, Denison has now won 13 straight games against Wittenberg (5-10, 5-4) since 2012, and is 44-2 all-time against the Tigers, which saw their four-game winning streak and postseason hopes officially come to end on Saturday.

Next up, top-seeded Denison will host the NCAC Tournament Semifinals at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4. Their opponent will be fourth-seeded Oberlin (12-4, 6-3), who the Big Red defeated by a final score of 16-9 on the road on April 12 earlier this season.
