Denison tops Oberlin by 10 in NCAC Semifinals

GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 4, 2022) – For the ninth time in its nine years of existence, the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game will feature the Denison University men's lacrosse team as the Big Red won their ninth game in a row with a 10-point victory, 19-9, over Oberlin College in the seminal round on Wednesday night inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

After back-to-back goals by Ethan Tyack to start the scoring, Denison outscored Oberlin 5-2 in the first quarter and then used another goal by Tyack to start the second quarter.

Then up 9-4 at the break after a goal by Quinn O'Donnell in the final two minutes of the second quarter, Denison began to run away from the Yeomen in the third quarter, outscoring them 7-1, including a trio of goals by Camden Bowdy.

In the end, Tyack finished with four goals and two assists while Bowdy had four goals and added one assist and Luke Fisher had two goals and two assists.

Gavin Pappas, Nate Kay and Jack Hines also scored twice while Tommy Quinson added two assists.

Davis Cronin was 16-for-22 on faceoffs and finished with 12 groundballs while Colin MacLean was 7-for-9 with five groundballs.

In goal, Archer Darrach played every minute and improved to 12-1 on the year after making more saves (10) than goals allowed (9) for the seventh time this season.

Denison improved to 14-4 overall and 9-0 at home on the season, and is now 54-0 against Oberlin since 1965. The Yeomen, meanwhile, finished their season at 12-5, but also finished with the most wins in program history and their first appearance in the NCAC Tournament.

This is the ninth year of the NCAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament and is the ninth time that the Big Red will play in the championship game. Denison is 6-2 in its previous eight conference title games, including a current streak of five championship wins in a row.

Denison will host the No. 2 seed, Kenyon College, on Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. The Lords defeated Ohio Wesleyan University 12-6 in their semifinal matchup on Wednesday as well. In 2021's NCAC Championship game, Denison defeated Kenyon by a final score of 12-10.
