SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (April 2, 2022) – The No. 21 Denison University baseball team opened up North Coast Athletic Conference action by doubling up the Tigers 12-6 in game one before suffering a tough 4-2 loss after giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth during game two at Wittenberg University on Saturday inside Carleton Davidson Stadium.
Game 1 (No. 21 Denison 12, Wittenberg 6):
- Denison led 2-0 after an RBI-single to center field by Jake Welsch and a double steal by Welsch taking second and Danny Alvarez taking home in the top of the first inning.
- With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Eric Colaco opened up Denison's lead from 2-1 to 6-1 with one swing of the bat, connecting on a grand slam to left center field.
- Then after a sacrifice fly to center by Colaco in the top of the sixth inning, Charlie Glennon was next up and greeted the Tigers with a two-run home run to left field to make it 9-1.
- A bases loaded walk by Justin Wernoski made it 10-1 still in the sixth inning before Welsch added his second RBI of the game with a two-out single through the left side in the eighth to make it 11-1.
- Colaco then had his sixth RBI with another sacrifice fly to center to make it 12-3 in the top of the ninth.
- Patrick Neenan led the Big Red offensively in game one, finishing 4-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and three runs scored.

Game 2 (No. 21 Denison 2, Wittenberg 4):
- After the two teams combined for 27 hits in game one, game two finished with only 10 hits between them.
- The Big Red trailed 2-0 after a two-out, two-run double by Wittenberg in the bottom of the second inning, and had only one hit themselves until the seventh inning.
- In the seventh, Denison loaded the bases with nobody out, and after a ball hit to second base by Daniel Spencer allowed Welsch to score, an errant throw by the Tigers' shortstop trying to turn a double play allowed Alvarez to cross home plate and the tie the game at 2-2.
- Unfortunately, after two outs by Wittenberg to start the bottom of the ninth, an error by the Big Red extended the inning, leading to a walk off two-run home run to left field by the Tigers.

Records:
- No. 21 Denison's record moved to 11-6 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC while Wittenberg's moved to 12-5Â and 1-1 as well.

Next Up: The Big Red will have a rematch against the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division III, Marietta College, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, in Marietta, Ohio. The Pioneers defeated the Big Red by a final score of 10-1 earlier this week on Tuesday in Granville, Ohio, snapping Denison's five-game winning streak in the series.
