GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 16, 2022) – Thanks to strong starting pitching from
Taylor Perrett and
Kenny Lippman and relentless hitting by the Big Red offense, the Denison University baseball team swept Hiram College by scores of 13-0 and 10-0 on Saturday at the Big Red Baseball Field to improve to 6-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a five-game winning streak.
Game 1 (Denison 13, Hiram 0)
- Denison struck quickly in the bottom of the first inning as Eric Colaco led off with a single down the right field line and then advanced to third on a single through the right side by Ari Fierer before scoring on an RBI-groundout by Dylan Hunter.
- Then after RBI's by Fierer and Hunter in the bottom of the third made it 3-0, the dagger inning was a nine-run bottom of the fourth that featured nine hits and was highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Fierer and Hunter.
- Colaco led the Big Red with a 3-for-4 effort featuring three runs scored and two RBI's while Fierer and Hunter were both 2-for-4 with three RBI's.
- Perrett (5-1), meanwhile, pitched a 1-2-3 inning in four of his five innings and finished allowing only two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
- Henry Haack and Jarrett Hyder pitched the final two frames, each allowing just one hit in their inning of work.

Game 2 (Denison 10, Hiram 0)
- The strong day at the plate continued for the Big Red in game two as Danny Alvarez led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to center field to make it 1-0 before three straight singles led to three more runs to make it 4-0.
- Then in the bottom of the sixth, the day became really special as Fierer smacked his second two-run home run of the day to right center, this time from the right side of the plate after doing so from the left side in game one.
- Fierer finished 2-for-4 with three RBI's for the second game in a row while Alvarez was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
- On the mound, Lippman (3-1) pitched six innings allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out 10.
- Will McManaman and Nick Falter combined for a 1-2-3 top of the seventh and both recorded a strikeout to end it as the Denison pitching staff finished the day with a combined 14 innings pitched allowing just seven hits with no walks and 19 strikeouts.

Records:
- Denison improves to 16-7 overall and 6-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, and has now won 12 of its last 13 games against Hiram, which dropped to 9-15 and 1-7.

Next Up: Next up for Denison will be a big series at Kenyon College, who entered the weekend as the final NCAC team without a conference loss. The Big Red and the Lords will square off in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, in Gambier, Ohio.
