Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 20 men’s lacrosse falls in final nonconference game at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. (March 30, 2022) – The No. 20 Denison University men's lacrosse team played in its final nonconference game of the 2022 regular season on Wednesday, but the Big Red came up short by a final score of 14-10 at Grove City College on Robert E. Thorn Field.

The number six haunted the Big Red in the first quarter as they trailed 6-0 and were 0-for-6 on both shot attempts and on faceoffs after the opening 15 minutes.

Grove City then scored its seventh goal of the game just seven seconds into the second quarter.

The Big Red finally scored their first goal with 13:11 left in the first half after previously missing their first four shots of the second quarter. Momentum, however, can be a fickle thing as Denison went to score on four of its next eight shots after starting the game 0-for-10.

The score that got Denison on the board was a man-up goal that came from the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week, Camden Bowdy, and was assisted by Luke Fisher. Then with 10:39 left in the first half, Bowdy assisted on a goal by Fisher to make it a 7-2 deficit.

In all, the Big Red went on a 4-0 run to get within three at 7-4 with 9:14 left in the first half.

In the final 1:30 of the half, Fisher caused a turnover by the Wolverines deep in Grove City territory and quickly finished with a goal past the keeper to make it 9-5. However, Grove City answered with a goal in the final few seconds of the half to double up the Big Red at 10-5 at the break.

After Colin MacLean won the opening faceoff of the second half, Bowdy connected on his second goal of the game on the third assist of the game by Ethan Tyack to make it 10-6 less than a minute into the third period. Unfortunately, the Big Red never got closer than to within four goals the rest of the way.

Bowdy (3 goals, 2 assists), Fisher (2 goals, 3 assists) and Tyack (2 goals, 3 assists) each scored five points while Tyack also led the team with five groundballs.

Denison dropped to 5-4 on the season while Grove City improved to 6-4 with its fourth win in a row. The Big Red were only 9-for-24 on faceoffs, marking their lowest number of faceoff wins all season long.

The Big Red will kick off the final month of the regular season by returning to Granville for their first home NCAC game of the season at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, against Kenyon College.
