GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 2, 2022) – The No. 20 Denison University men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference action and remained undefeated at home at 4-0 with a 16-7 win over rival Kenyon College on Saturday inside Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
Denison led 4-0 after a first quarter that featured a pair of goals by
Nate Kay, and then the Big Red's lead grew to 6-0 on goals by
Tommy Quinson and
Quinn O'Donnell early in the second quarter.
Then with its lead cut to three at 7-4 a little less than four minutes into the third quarter, a quick goal by
Davis Cronin after he won the faceoff jumpstarted another 6-0 Denison run. The Big Red put up five straight goals to end the third quarter before a score by
Camden Bowdy made it 13-4 early in the fourth.
Bowdy accounted for three goals during Denison's run between the third and fourth quarter, and then added another goal to cap a 3-0 run in the fourth that made it 16-5.
In all, Bowdy finished with eight points, scoring five goals and adding three assists.
Additionally,
Luke Fisher finished with four assists,
Ethan Tyack finished with one goal and two assists, and O'Donnell, Kay and
Jack Chace each finished with two goals.
Owen O'Neill led the Big Red with six groundballs, Cronin was 12-for-18 on faceoffs and added four groundballs, and
Colin MacLean was 6-for-7 on faceoffs.
Archer Darrach improved to 4-1 in goal after making 11 saves on 18 shots on goal.
In addition to winning its first NCAC game at home under the guidance of new Head Coach
Eric Koch and improving to 2-0 in conference play overall, Denison's record moved to 6-4 overall while the Big Red also improved to 18-0 against Kenyon (6-3 overall, 1-1 NCAC) since 2006.
The Big Red will now have to wait until next Saturday, April 9, until they return to action looking to improve to 3-0 in the conference at 5-0 at home as they host the College of Wooster at 1 p.m.
