OWINGS MILLS, Md. (March 19, 2022) – The second and final day of the Mustang Classic, hosted by Stevenson University, saw the No. 18 Denison University men's lacrosse team fall 14-10 against No. 11 Dickinson College on Saturday night.
Denison trailed 4-1 in the first quarter and 6-2 in the second before finding itself behind 9-5 at halftime.
The Big Red, however, outscored the Devils 3-2 in the third quarter on goals by
Ethan Tyack,
Will Kenney and
Gavin Pappas to get within three at 11-8.
A pair of goals by
Clyde Bresnahan and
Camden Bowdy then made it only a two-point game at 12-10 with 10:53 left to play before two more goals for Dickinson.
Bowdy led the Big Red with seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) while Tyack recorded the hat trick and Kenny had two goals and one assist.
Davis Cronin had nine groundballs and was 18-for-27 on faceoffs while
Sean Bailey added six groundballs and
Brooks Crowley added four caused turnovers.
Denison outshot Dickinson 53-39, including 28-22 on goal, but the Dickinson goalkeeper, Patrick Scarborough, finished with 18 saves. The Big Red also won 19 of the 28 faceoffs and led the groundball category by 20 (49-29).
With three straight losses against fellow nationally-ranked teams, Denison is now .500 on the season at 3-3 while Dickinson remained undefeated at 7-0 with four wins over nationally-ranked teams. Each of the last five meetings between Denison and Dickinson, including Saturday, have been played at Stevenson, the last three of which have now been won by the Devils.
The Big Red will return home to Granville and Deeds Field-Piper Stadium where they are 2-0 to host John Carroll University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23.
