GREENCASTLE, Ind. (February 16, 2022) – The Denison University women's basketball team started its final week of the 2021-22 regular season with an 81-33 loss at No. 12 nationally-ranked DePauw University on Wednesday night.
It was a tough start from the field for Denison, which made only two of its first 15 field goal attempts (13.3 percent) while DePauw started 6-for-10 from the field and led the game 14-4.
It was 19-6 after the first quarter and 39-17 at halftime as the Big Red had only six field goals at that point and were being outrebounded 27-13. In the end, Denison was held to single digits in scoring of three of the four quarters in the game and was doubled up both on the scoreboard and on the glass.
On the positive end, Denison only turned the ball over seven times and had six steals on 14 turnovers by DePauw.
Ava Warcaba led the Big Red in scoring with six points while
Gabby Elliott had five and
Jill Smith and
Mikaila Carpenter both had four.
Denison (8-13 overall, 6-8 North Coast Athletic Conference) fell for the 15th straight time against DePauw, which improved to 21-2 overall and 14-0 in the conference and has now achieved a 10-game winning streak after not losing a game since December 30, 2021. In addition, the Tigers have officially locked up their fifth straight NCAC title.
Now with only one game to go, Denison will wrap up the regular season at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, at Allegheny College. The Big Red defeated Allegheny 69-44 back on January 18 inside Livingston Gymnasium after outscoring the Gators 58-31 over the final three quarters.
