ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 12, 2022) – The No. 27 Denison University women's squash team began its 2022-23 season with a 9-0 win over Bucknell University in its first match of the Navy Round Robin on Saturday. Then against No. 22 Georgetown University later that evening, Denison fell 8-1 despite freshman
Maria Clara Ramirez claiming her second 3-0 win of the day as the No. 1 seed for the Big Red.
None of the Denison players dropped a set against Bucknell, and Clara Ramirez won 11-6, 11-2, 11-2 before winning 11-2, 11-5, 11-9 against Katie Hennessy of Georgetown. Also against the Hoyas,
Charlotte Sigg won the first two sets by tiebreaker scores of 12-10 at the No. 7 seed, but could not finish if off before falling 10-12, 10-12, 11-9, 11-1, 11-1. Additionally,
Natalie Stanchina won the first set at the No. 9 seed 15-13 in a tiebreaker before falling 13-15, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4.
Against Bucknell, both
Kate Manderlink (No. 6 seed) and
Hannah Best (No. 8 seed) won without dropping a point.
The Big Red will wrap up the Navy Round Robin against Boston University at 10 a.m. on Sunday, November 13.
