COLUMBUS, Ohio (November 11, 2022) – The No. 3 Denison University men's swimming & diving team suffered a 182-106 loss to the No. 12-ranked team in NCAA Division I, The Ohio State University, on Friday night at the McCorckle Aquatic Pavilion. This was the 13th straight season that Ohio State has hosted Denison in a dual meet on the OSU campus.
The meet started with the 200 medley relay, which saw
Chris Luus,
Elijah Venos,
Richie Kurlich and
Aidan Lane finsih fifth with a time of 1:32.35.
Then in the first individual event, the 1000 freestyle,
Sam Myaard was sixth with a time of 9:55.70 while
Luke Landis was seventh with a time of 10:06.27. Next was the 200 freestyle in which
Christian Narcelles was sixth with a time of 1:44.45 while
Tyler Distenfeld was seventh at 1:45.70.
In the 100 backstroke, Luss was sixth with a time of 52.40 seconds while
Patrick Madden was seventh at 54.36 seconds, and then Venos was sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.48 seconds while
Gavin Jones was seventh at 59.22 seconds.
Kurlich put together Denison's first second-place finish of the day with a time of 1:49.18 in the 200 butterfly. It was his third straight NCAA Division III National "B" cut time in the event.
Lane finished in sixth place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.60 seconds before
Dhinal Weerasinghe took seventh with a time of 21.80 seconds, and then in the 100 freestyle,
Patrick Daly was sixth in 47.99 seconds before Narcelles was seventh at 48.01 seconds.
Next up was the 200 backstroke as
Nick Settembrine finished sixth at 1:58.36 while
Lucas Conrads with seventh at 1:59.02, and then in the 200 breaststroke, Denison finished in order between second and sixth place as it went Jones (2:09.54), Venos (2:12.40),
Franceso Assalone (2:18.75),
Blake McDonald (2:21.03) and then
David Niehaus (2:23.57).
In the 500 freestyle, Distenfeld (4:45.74) finished first, Conrads (4:48.43) was second, Myaard (4:48.46) was third, Madden (4:56.63) was fourth and
Josh Thomas (4:56.77) was fifth.
Kurlich (48.55) then took first in the 100 butterfly with his second National "B" cut in the event in the last two weeks, and was followed by Weerasinghe (52.03) in second, Luus (52.88) in third,
Max Hutson-Comeaux (56.29) in fourth and
James Pastore (57.90) in fifth.
In the last individual event, the 200 IM, Daly (1:57.63) was first, Jones (1:58.67) was second,
Max Soja (1:58.94) was third and Narcelles (2:00.27) was fourth.
Denison closed out the meet with a first-place time of 3:07.19 by Kurlich,
Richie Stewart, Weerasinghe and Lane in the 400 freestyle relay.
On the diving boards,
Kristian Kowalski was seventh in the 3-meter dive with a score of 234.53 points, and then
Brendan Downey (243.68),
Nick Fogle (241.28) and Kowalski (239.98) finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 1-meter dive.
Denison will return to the pool in three weeks when they host the Denison Invitational (Dec. 1-3) at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
