Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Denison and Oberlin play to stalemate

GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 8, 2022) – The Denison University men's soccer team and Oberlin College played in a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field. At halftime, the Big Red recognized the 60th Anniversary of the 1962 Denison men's soccer team that won the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championship.

Backed by a Denison defense that allowed only three shots on goal, Tommy Prokos played all 90 minutes and finished with his third shutout of the season and second in a row while for Oberlin, Colvin Iorio had to make nine saves to keep the Big Red off the scoreboard.

Jake Krueger led the Big Red with five total shots and two shots on goal while Ethan Miracle tallied four shots and Lorenz Hoover put both of his attempts on goal.

Denison came out firing with a shot by Henri Heyes that was saved two and a half minutes in, and then after the first save by Prokos 30 seconds later, Krueger hit the post in the eighth minute to start a span of four straight shots by him.

In all, Denison had six shots in the first 18 minutes of the match, three of which were saved by Iorio, who ended up making six saves in the first half.

Starting at the 49-minute mark, Denison had a few chances to score as back-to-back shots by Ben Goeller and Krueger were saved before Miracle hit the post in the 52nd minute.

In the 53rd minute, Oberlin hit the crossbar with a shot, and then the Denison defense stepped up with three blocked shots over the next 15 minutes to keep the ball away from the goal.

Head Coach Brandon Bianco said, "While we took a point from today, I know our group is disappointed from the result. We had some chances early we could have done better with, but overall we didn't put 90 minutes together we all could be proud of. With the quick turnaround with our Tuesday match, we'll have to move on quickly and refocus our energy for Wabash."

The tie for Denison (6-2-3 overall, 1-0-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) ended a stretch of four straight wins with at least two goals scored in each game for the Big Red against Oberlin (4-5-1, 0-2-1), which was playing in only its second road match of the season.

Next up for the Big Red will be a road match at Wabash College starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
