GRANVILLE, Ohio (October 15, 2022) – Sophomore midfielder
Cameron McIntosh scored four goals and added one assist as the Denison University men's soccer team remained undefeated four matches into conference play by taking down Hiram College 8-0 on Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
The Big Red outshot the Terriers 40-1 and had 19 shots on goal.
After
Niko Argyros opened the scoring with a goal on the assist by McIntosh in the 20th minute, the second goal in as many matches for Argyos, McIntosh would score himself on the first assist of the season by
Henry Schwartz in the 39th minute.
Vitor Rocha then made it 3-0 in the 44th minute with his first goal of the season on the first assist of the year for
Rohan Tripathy.
In the second half, McIntosh scored three straight goals on assists by
Michael Sullivan in the 51st minute,
Ethan Miracle in the 54th minute and
Jake Krueger in the 59th, but the Big Red were not done as senior
Jackson Briggs scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 85th minute before freshman
Brody Cook scored his first career goal on the first assist of the season by
Corey Brunner in the 88th minute.
The four goals by McIntosh were his first four of the season after tying for second on the team with six goals as a freshman a year ago. Additionally, the assist by Sullivan on McIntosh's second goal was the first of his career as a sophomore.
10 players had at least two shots for the Big Red, led by McIntosh with seven and Krueger with six while Argyros, Brunner, Rocha and
Phil Koutsaftis each had three shots.
Meanwhile in goal,
Zach Barr had a day of firsts as he made his first career start, made the save on Hiram's only shot attempt of the match, and earned both his first career win and first career shutout.
"Going into today, we talked to the team about putting today's game into full focus," spoke Head Coach
Brandon Bianco. "We did that this afternoon and we're really pleased with the performance of the group. We have a big week ahead and look forward to continuing to get better."
Now with four straight shutouts to start its conference schedule, Denison improves to 8-2-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Hiram drops to 1-11 and 0-4.
Next week will see the Big Red play on the road at No. 3 nationally-ranked Kenyon College before returning home to host their Senior Day at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, against Ohio Wesleyan University.
