Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer falls at No. 3 Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio (October 19, 2022) – The Denison University men's soccer team fell for the first time in North Coast Athletic Conference action so far this season, dropping a 3-0 decision on a cold Wednesday afternoon at No. 3 nationally-ranked Kenyon College. This was the first match at Kenyon for the Big Red since last season's 1-0 victory in the NCAC Tournament Championship match.

The Big Red played extremely well over the course of the first 60 minutes of the match, limiting the Owls to only one shot on goal during the first half on a save by Tommy Prokos three and a half minutes in.

Denison's first shot came in the 22nd minute when Cameron McIntosh had an amazing opportunity that was barely saved by the diving Kenyon goalkeeper Jack Pedreschi.

Henry Schwartz had the next opportunity for Denison late in the first half as a cross from McIntosh found Schwartz in the box in the 42nd minute, but his attempt would sail just high of the goal.

The first shot on goal of the second half came by way of a header from Denison's Jake Krueger, who tied to float it into the goal in the 54th minute before Pedreschi barely got his fingertips on it to knock it over the goal.

That was Denison's closest opportunity to score in the match, and then after Prokos laid out to keep the ball out of the net and collect his second save of the match in the 58th minute, the 63rd minute is where the Owls finally broke through as a cross from Sam Carson found Sebastian Gaese in the box, who was somehow able to sneak the ball past Prokos into the bottom right of the goal to make it 1-0.

From there, the floodgates opened as Kenyon would add another goal in the 73rd minute after stealing a goal kick and then scored again nine minutes later via a free kick.

Denison's final shot attempt came in the 82nd minute when Phil Koutsaftis fired a shot down the middle that Pedreschi easily stopped.

Both Prokos and Pedreschi finished with three saves on the match while Krueger and Koutsaftis led the Big Red with two shots apiece.

Denison's Head Coach Brandon Bianco said, "Disappointing result today but we are proud of the effort of the group. They took their moments going forward and credit to them. We look to regroup and move forward to Saturday."

With the defeat, Denison drops to 8-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in NCAC play while Kenyon stays undefeated at 13-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play.

The Big Red return home for Senior Day to play another tough match against Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 22, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
