Women’s basketball drops home game to No. 14 DePauw

GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 19, 2022) – The Denison University women's basketball team played its second of back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference games at home on back-to-back days, but this time the Big Red came up short by a final score of 78-42 against the No. 14 nationally-ranked team in NCAA Division III, DePauw University, on Wednesday night inside Livingston Gymnasium.

Denison (6-8 overall, 4-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) shot only 25 percent for the game while allowing DePauw (13-2, 6-0) to shoot 52.5 percent, including a great percentage of 61.54 percent (8-13) in the first quarter alone.

Each of Denison's first two field goals of the game came via 3-pointers by Francesca Sileo to make it 9-6 three minutes in, and then an and-one by Ava Warcaba made it only a 2-point game at 11-9 halfway through the first quarter.

The Tigers took a seven-point lead (21-14) into the second quarter, where they scored seven in a row to double up the Big Red at 28-14 less than two minutes into the period.

Denison was led by Sileo with nine points on three 3-pointers while Gabby Elliott was next with seven points and Mikaila Carpenter and Isa Contreras both had six. Additionally, Hannah Wynn dished out at least four assists for the sixth game in a row.

The Big Red will now look to wrap up their stretch of three straight home games on a high note as they host Wittenberg University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, inside Livingston Gymnasium.
