GRANVILLE, Ohio (January 18, 2022) – The Denison University women's basketball team kicked off its stretch of three straight home games in one week with a 69-44 win over Allegheny College in what was also the first home game of 2022 for the Big Red.
Despite trailing 13-11 after the first quarter, Denison outscored Allegheny 58-31 over the final three quarters and held them to only nine points on 20 percent shooting from the field (3-15) in the fourth.
The Big Red also limited the Gators to without a single 3-point make on nine attempts.
In the second quarter, Denison outscored Allegheny 19-10 and made eight of its 13 field goal attempts (61.54 percent) in the period to take a 30-23 lead at halftime.
Gabby Elliott led the Big Red with 12 points while
Isa Contreras had 11 points and
Mikaila Carpenter had 10.
Ava Warcaba scored eight points,
Hannah Wynn had seven points and a game-high four assists, and
Amy Barry and
Maddie Goodman both had a team-high six rebounds.
With the win, Denison improved to 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Allegheny, which was playing for the first time since December 20, fell to 4-9 and 1-4.
Tomorrow, Denison will put its current three-game home winning streak on the line in a tough matchup against a No. 14 nationally-ranked DePauw University squad that is undefeated in the NCAC at 5-0. The Big Red and the Tigers will tipoff in the night game at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19.
