GRANVILLE, Ohio (September 18, 2021) – Four days after its exciting 4-1 victory over No. 7 Capital University, the Denison University men's soccer team could not get going this time out as it fell 3-1 against Wilmington College on Saturday night on Barclay-Thomsen Field.
Wilmington showed off its speed and athleticism in the first half and scored twice in the opening 45 minutes, both on goals by Elorm Dogbey.
Denison had only four shots on goal before finally getting on the board in the final two minutes with a goal from freshman
Cole Trigg.
Vitor Rocha and
Luca Vicinelli both led Denison will three shots while
Cameron McIntosh and
Lorenz Hoover added two.
In the 70th minute, Denison had three shots in less than 30 seconds where McIntosh had two shots saved and Rocha had one blocked.
With its four-match winning streak now over, Denison fell to 4-2 overall on the season while Wilmington improved to 5-0-1 and has now outscored its opponents 23-3 on the season.
Next up for Denison men's soccer will be only one more nonconference matchup before the start of North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Big Red will wrap up their current four-match homestand by hosting John Carroll University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, from Barclay-Thomsen Field.
